Description

Whip up this Chinese Beef and Broccoli in one pan! Tender flank steak and crisp broccoli swim in a rich, savory-sweet sauce. Quick, healthy, and easy for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 4 cups broccoli florets, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Prepare Beef and Sauce. Slice the flank steak thinly against the grain. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, minced garlic, grated ginger, and 1/4 cup of water (or beef broth) until well combined for the sauce.
  2. Step 2: Cook Beef. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the sliced beef in a single layer and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until browned. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.
  3. Step 3: Cook Broccoli. Add the broccoli florets to the same pan. If the pan seems dry, add a splash of water (about 1-2 tablespoons). Cover the pan and let the broccoli steam for 3-5 minutes, or until tender-crisp.
  4. Step 4: Combine and Finish. Return the cooked beef to the pan with the broccoli. Give the prepared sauce a quick whisk (as cornstarch settles) and pour it over the beef and broccoli. Stir everything gently to coat. Cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens and coats the ingredients. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Store any delicious leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days to keep them fresh and ready for another meal.
  • For best results, gently reheat your beef and broccoli on the stovetop over medium heat with a splash of water or broth, stirring occasionally, until warmed through.
  • This dish is absolutely perfect served hot over a bed of fluffy white or brown rice, or even alongside some simple lo mein noodles for an extra comforting meal.
  • For incredibly tender beef that practically melts in your mouth, always remember to slice the flank steak thinly against the grain; this little trick makes a huge difference in texture!
