Description

Get ready for game day! These sweet-and-savory sliders feature juicy ground beef, melty American cheese, and tangy ‘Special Sauce’ on soft Hawaiian rolls. Quick oven baking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs Ground Beef (80/20 preferred)
  • 1 package (12 count) Hawaiian Sweet Rolls
  • 12 slices American Cheese
  • 1 cup Mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup Ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Yellow Mustard
  • 1/4 cup finely diced White Onion
  • 1 cup finely shredded Iceberg Lettuce

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare the "Special Sauce" by combining the mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and half of the finely diced white onion in a small bowl. Stir well and set aside.
  2. Step 2: Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain off any excess grease thoroughly and season the meat generously with salt and pepper.
  3. Step 3: Slice the entire package of Hawaiian rolls horizontally using a serrated knife without separating the individual rolls. Place the bottom half of the rolls into a 9×13 inch baking dish. Spread the cooked ground beef mixture evenly across the roll bottoms.
  4. Step 4: Layer the top of the ground beef with the remaining diced white onion and 1/2 cup of dill pickle slices (if using). Cover the meat entirely with the 12 slices of American cheese, then place the top half of the rolls back on. Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil.
  5. Step 5: Bake the sliders for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the cheese is completely melted and gooey. Remove the foil, lift the top buns, and generously spread the prepared Special Sauce over the cheese layer. Pile high with the shredded iceberg lettuce, cut into individual sliders, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Store leftover baked sliders (without the cold Special Sauce and lettuce) wrapped tightly in foil in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • To revive the sliders, reheat the cheese-and-meat base wrapped loosely in foil in a 300°F oven for about 10 minutes, then top with fresh sauce and lettuce.
  • For the perfect game-day setup, serve these addictive sliders alongside seasoned waffle fries and plenty of extra Special Sauce for dipping.
  • To prevent the sweet Hawaiian rolls from getting soggy, make absolutely sure the ground beef is drained until bone-dry after cooking, even pressing it against the skillet wall to extract residual grease.
