Description
Skip the fast-food line! This One-Pan Cheeseburger Pie delivers savory, cheesy ground beef, seasoned with classic ketchup and mustard flavors, all cooked in one skillet.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 cup chopped yellow onion
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
- 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese, divided
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). In a large, oven-safe skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and onion, breaking up the beef with a spoon, and cook until the beef is browned and the onion is softened (about 8-10 minutes). Drain any excess grease from the skillet.
- Step 2: Reduce the heat to low. Stir in the ketchup and mustard, seasoning with salt and pepper to taste. Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in 1 cup of the shredded Cheddar cheese until melted and fully combined with the meat mixture. Spread the mixture evenly across the bottom of the skillet.
- Step 3: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and milk until a thick batter forms. Pour the batter carefully and evenly over the meat base in the skillet, ensuring all the meat is covered.
- Step 4: Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of shredded Cheddar cheese over the top of the batter.
- Step 5: Place the skillet in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the biscuit topping is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Step 6: Let the pie cool for 5 minutes before slicing and serving directly from the skillet.
Notes
- Leftovers store well in the fridge for 3 days; for best results, slice the cooled pie and store portions in an airtight container to keep the biscuit topping from getting soggy.
- To reheat slices, place them in a toaster oven or regular oven at 300°F (150°C) for about 10 minutes to crisp up the topping without drying out the meat.
- Amplify the cheeseburger experience by serving hot slices alongside crispy dill pickles, shredded lettuce, or a light side salad dressed with a simple vinaigrette.
- Chef's Tip: Drain the grease thoroughly after cooking the beef and onion; excess moisture is the enemy of a properly set, firm biscuit base.
