Description
Two classics collide! Sourdough or Texas toast slathered in garlicky, herby butter, grilled to perfection with melty cheddar. Full instructions & nutrition details available.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 slices sourdough or Texas toast bread
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese (or a blend of cheddar and mozzarella)
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Step 1: In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, chopped fresh parsley, and salt. Mix well until everything is evenly incorporated to create your garlic butter spread.
- Step 2: Take each slice of bread and generously spread the garlic butter mixture on one side. Flip two of the bread slices over so the unbuttered side is facing up.
- Step 3: Evenly divide the shredded cheese and pile it onto the unbuttered side of the two flipped bread slices. Place the remaining two bread slices (garlic-butter side facing out) on top of the cheese to form two sandwiches.
- Step 4: Heat a large non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Carefully place the assembled sandwiches into the hot skillet, garlic-butter side down. Cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the bottom is golden brown and crispy.
- Step 5: Using a spatula, carefully flip each sandwich. Continue to cook for another 3-5 minutes on the second side, or until golden brown and the cheese is completely melted and bubbly. Remove from skillet, let rest for a minute, then slice and serve immediately.
Notes
- This grilled cheese is truly best enjoyed fresh off the skillet, but if you have leftovers, wrap them tightly in foil and refrigerate for up to 1 day to maintain some freshness.
- To revive a refrigerated sandwich, reheat it gently in a dry skillet over medium-low heat until the bread crisps up and the cheese re-melts, or pop it in an air fryer for similar results.
- Elevate this indulgent sandwich by serving it alongside a warm bowl of your favorite creamy tomato soup, or a crisp green salad with a light vinaigrette for a perfectly balanced meal.
- For the most even garlic flavor and to prevent any bitter bits, ensure your garlic is very finely minced or even grated into the softened butter mixture.
